SAX QUARTET NO1
1996
This saxophone quartet, optimistically titled No. 1, was composed in response to a call for works from a professional saxophone ensemble. I carefully researched their style, aiming to create a piece that would both suit their approach and resonate with my own musical preferences—embracing a jazz-infused character without becoming overly preoccupied with experimental structures and techniques. Although the piece did not win, it was shortlisted, and I remember receiving a wonderfully positive letter from the group, praising its merits and expressing how much they enjoyed it. Unfortunately, I can no longer recall the name of the ensemble, but their feedback remains a meaningful memory from the experience.
