RUNAWAY BELLS

Runaway Bells was inspired by the resounding peal of Halifax Minster’s bells on a Sunday morning—an ever-present soundtrack to my weekly hikes through the hills encircling the Minster. As I walked, I became mesmerized by the shifting, impromptu harmonies and rhythmic interplay, waxing and waning with each step. This vibrant orchestral work captures that spontaneous energy, layering sparkling dynamic patterns, textures, and insistent melodies in a fast-paced and exhilarating musical tapestry. Commissioned for the Kirklees Youth Symphony Orchestra, Runaway Bells premiered at St Paul’s Church, University of Huddersfield, in 2017 as part of a grand Christmas concert.
