This saxophone quartet, optimistically titled No. 1, was written in response to a call for works from a professional ensemble. Influenced by jazz styles, the piece balances accessible melodic writing with more contemporary textures and rhythms.

Although it was not selected for performance, the work was shortlisted, and the ensemble wrote warmly about the piece and its musical character.
