This piece developed from At the End of the World, a piano work from the For Sophie album, later reworked here as an SATB choral setting.

Its reflective, elegiac character lent itself naturally to voices, gradually evolving into a more expansive vocal texture while retaining the atmosphere of the original composition.

The text is drawn from Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, setting one of the play’s most poignant songs - a meditation on love, longing and emotional fragility that complements the restrained melancholy of the music.
