Three Saxophone Quintets

1997

arranged for SAATB saxophones

Over the years, I have arranged a number of jazz standards for saxophone ensembles, often for performance in informal concert and jazz settings. Among them are arrangements of Autumn Leaves (Mercer), Misty (Garner), and A Night in Tunisia (Gillespie) for saxophone quintet.

The arrangements are built around a melody-and-accompaniment texture, with space for improvised solos and flexibility in performance. While initially based on the harmonic framework found in the Real Book, some reharmonisation was introduced where it felt musically appropriate.
